LOS ANGELES, July 14 (UPI) -- Reese Witherspoon and Kristin Chenoweth are in talks to voice roles in Disney's upcoming "Rapunzel Unbraided," Daily Variety said Wednesday.

The project is being set up as a computer-generated animated feature. It is described as a contemporary take on the classic fairy tale about a young girl who is held captive in a tower, only to be rescued by a young man who uses her long, flowing hair to climb up to her window.

It is being directed by Glen Keane, who previously worked as a supervising animator on such Disney pictures as "Treasure Planet," "Aladdin" and "Beauty and the Beast."

Witherspoon is due on U.S. screens in September in "Vanity Fair." She is currently filming "Walk the Line" -- co-starring Joaquin Phoenix and based on the life of singer Johnny Cash.

Chenoweth won a Tony for her performance as Sally in the 1999 revival of "You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown." She is expected to sing the voice of Rapunzel in "Rapunzel Unbraided."
