Which Big Lots stores are closing? See list of additional locations for sale

The liquidation firm assisting Big Lots in its bankruptcy process has revealed another 200 or so locations that are likely to close.

Earlier this month, the Boston-based asset liquidation firm Gordon Brothers Retail Partners produced a list of 200 Big Lots locations with leases or contracts designated to be taken over by Variety Wholesalers as part of Big Lots' bankruptcy process.

Those stores are expected to be run as Big Lots stores by the Henderson, North Carolina-based Variety Wholesalers, which runs several other retail chains, including Roses Discount stores.

Another group of about 460 locations were listed for sale by Gordon Brothers last month on the sale site. That list was updated recently with more than 200 more Big Lots locations, with the leases up for sale and offers due by Feb. 17.

The closing of many Big Lots stores, as part of its bankruptcy, come in tandem with closures announced by other retailers such as Macy's, Kohl's and Party City, and more recently, JCPenney and Joann.

Big Lots: Which states could have more stores close?

Most of the locations for sale are in the following states: Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Mississippi, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, and West Virginia. There were a few additional stores closing in Delaware, Louisiana, Maryland, Missouri, Oklahoma, and Texas.

When it filed for bankruptcy in September, Big Lots was the fourth-largest home goods retailer in the U.S. Big Lots had 1,392 stores at the beginning of 2024 and now has 872 stores across the U.S., according to its website.

That leaves only a few store locations remaining to be sold or taken over by Variety Wholesalers. Neither Gordon Brothers or Big Lots responded to a request for information from USA TODAY.

This list, posted by Gordon Brothers Retail Partners, includes more than 600 Big Lots locations where the leases are for sale in 47 states. The locations highlighted in yellow are new additions.
