Kendrick Lamar revealed why he shot his Live from Paris: The Big Steppers Tour in the city of love. During a sit-down with Brandon “Jinx” Jenkins, K. Dot spoke about the significance of Paris and the footage coinciding with the tenth anniversary of good kid, m.A.A.d city. He began with a rare public K. Dot joke.
“Ni**as was just copying JAY-Z and Kanye,” the acclaimed rapper said with a couple of laughs before continuing. “Nah, like Dave [Free] said, that sh*t hold a special place for us because me and boy was thuggin,’ we was on a little boat or something shooting ‘Backseat Freestyle’ and the ‘God Is Gangsta’ video.
“We was thuggin’ around that muthaf**ka like 2012, 2014. That was like a second home, just shooting sh*t, just getting material. So to go back and shoot on the anniversary of good kid, that’s special.”
As he continued talking about the film, he offered a peek into his humor a bit. He admitted to the crowd that he was “shaking a**” in Paris more than usual. Kendrick claimed he was showing out because he knew he was doing it for Compton.
“The difference for me was, I was shaking major a**, man. I ain’t never shaken that much a**, bro! But at the same time, it’s freeing, though, ’cause that’s who I am,” he added.
