Askham Hall dates back to the 13th century and is located in the picturesque village of Askham. It has recently been transformed from a stately family home into a unique & contemporary stylish hotel. It offers fine dining in its Michelin Star restaurant and accommodation in 19 bedrooms, and has extensive gardens.
Guests staying at Askham Hall can meander through the beautiful gardens. These include long terraces of colourful herbaceous borders, topiary, ponds, meadows and wooded areas as well as a kitchen garden. There are stunning views of the River Lowther and Lowther Church.
Askham Hall, opposite St Peter’s Church, is a 14th century pele tower converted into an Elizabethan mansion in the mid 16th century by Thomas Sandford, whose family lived in it until 1828 when it became a rectory. It has three irregular wings around an oblong courtyard. Askham Hall had been the home of Lord Lonsdale since the dismantling of nearby Lowther Castle (now open as a visitor attraction).

(In one of the fields alongside the kitchen garden were the animals which could be seen as part of the garden route. Rare-breed pigs and goats and shorthorn cattle were among the animals that lived there.)
(There was a café, and an outside wood fired pizza oven, with outdoor seating and a children’s play area.)
