Hello everyone, I have the pleasure to nominate Ameisenigel for oversight permissions here at Wikidata. With the loss of Esteban16 and the inactivity of DannyS712 we are down to effectively two oversighters and could use some additional coverage. Ameisenigel comes to us with extensive experience on Wikidata as an administrator and elsewhere as a global sysop and member of the Ombuds Commission. They are also a sysop on dewiki. The key qualifications for oversight permissions are availability and relevant experience in my view, and Ameisenigel has both. I trust their judgment and believe they would make a valuable member of the local OS team. Thanks for your consideration, ---- Ajraddatz (talk) 21:52, 23 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
- Thank you. I accept the nomination and would be happy to help our OS team. My time zone is UTC+1/UTC+2. --Ameisenigel (talk) 21:59, 23 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Strong support I have always come across Ameisenigel as helpful/beneficial Wikimedian. I have had some OS requests and it was quite hard to find an active OS here, though Ajraddatz came to rescue. If they say there's a need, there is a need, and Ameisenigel is someone who fits in very well here given their knowledge, experience, and the trust that the community has on them. Question Is there a conflict of interest if a member of the Ombuds commission has oversight access in a major local project? How would the Ombuds commission react to that? I note that the meta:Ombuds commission page says: "As a general guideline, it is best that ombuds avoid conflicts of interest as much as possible, particularly by avoiding routine use of CheckUser or oversight access and not processing complaints on the projects on which they are very active editors." I am not suggesting that this should lead to an automatic disqualification, I just think this a legitimate issue that should be addressed. Samoasambia ✎ 01:12, 24 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
- Thank you for the question. It is indeed important to be aware of possible COI's. This is why members of the OC do not take part in investigations of cases from their home wikis where they have advanced rights like CU/OS. Currently half of the Commission members have either local CU or OS permissions. If one or two members do not take part in the investigation because of the possible COI there are still enough other members of the OC who do not have such a relation to the project. Of course I would also inform the OC if this request would be succesful. --Ameisenigel (talk) 07:37, 24 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
