Biography

    • Rudolph Richard Bond was born in 1912. He passed away in 1982.

Obituary

    • Rudy Bond, who played the neighbor Steve in the original Broadway and film versions of Tennessee Williams's A Streetcar Named Desire, died of a heart attack March 29 in Denver. He was 68 years old and lived in Los Angeles.
    • Mr. Bond, who was born in Philadelphia, appeared in Streetcar on Broadway in 1947 with Marlon Brando and Jessica Tandy, and again in a 1956 Broadway revival and national tour of the play. The film was made in 1951.
    • His other Broadway credits included Golden Boy, in 1952; Big Man and Match Play, both in 1966; and Illya Darling, a musical version of Never on Sunday, with Melina Mercouri, in 1967. He was in the national company of Fiorello in 1960-61.
    • Among the films in which he appeared were Miss Sadie Thompson, in 1953; On the Waterfront, 1954; 12 Angry Men, 1957; Middle of the Night, 1959; The Godfather, 1972; The Taking of Pelham One Two Three, 1974; and The Rose, 1979. At his death he was on his way to a rehearsal for What the Babe Said, a one-act play by Martin Halpern now in previews that opens tomorrow at the Denver Center Theater Company.
    • Mr. Bond is survived by his wife, Alma; a daughter, Janet, and two sons, Zane and John.
